My interest is in
Touch Drawing Personal Use, Facilitating Touch Drawing
What brings you to an interest in Touch Drawing or SoulCards?
After I met Deborah in NY in 2005 and she shared with me Touch Drawing, I realized that there was much missing in my own art practice. As I experienced more Touch Drawing and implemented it into the art classes that I teach, I saw the power of its immediate expression. I use just a small part of the potential of Touch Drawing, but that small part has changed my world immensely.
My experience applies to:
Art, Creativity, Education, Spiritual, Intuitive, Meditation
Have you done Touch Drawing?
Yes
Have you facilitated Touch Drawing?
Yes
In what setting have you facilitated?
I taught TD as a 16 week, college-level art class and as one and two-day workshops with groups as small as four to as big as fifteen. Just as I imagine all who give TD to the world do, I still learn much about TD and myself each time.
I attended the Annual Touch Drawing Gathering on Whidbey Island, Washington
2006
Share a special experience with Touch Drawing or SoulCards.
I was working with a group of teachers and parents from a Waldorf school in FL. I planned for body and movement to be the final part of the Touch Drawing session, and we moved outside to be with the Earth. We sang a song to welcome and acknowledge one another to that space, and then we began to move in a circle. As we moved, I called out the names of different animals, and we moved like that animal. These people let go more than any I'd been with for some time, and the drawings we produced after I invited them back into the room to draw how they moved with the Earth were wonderful. I've not let go like this in a group since the Gathering in 2006.
Do you facilitate SoulCards with others?
No
Is there anything else you would like us to know about you?
I have a good life.
City, state, zip and/or region and country

Diana and the Hound

I am thrilled with the process of drawing with gun powder. And I've finally realized a way to use the gun powder as if I am doing a TD. The process is different because I throw the gun powder on the paper and light it, and then continue to do that until an image comes to the pap… Continue

This is the fourth of five drawings with gun powder, torch, and wood burner that I've done. The fifth one isn't done yet, but it is called Diana and Her Hound. It is beautiful, and I hope to finish it without wrecking it. This drawing, Tankers' Nightmare, has heavy content for me, but I feel safe sharing here--just as I did at the Gathering I attended.

Safiya

I finished the biggest burning yet, and it is gorgeous. The piece measures 60"x40", and I burned the image onto the paper. My idea came from a story, which seems to be historical, that I found concerning Safiya. I took the idea of shame, which she reportedly did to the warriors

Powder and such

So I started using gun powder to burn with. I start by spreading powder all over the paper and lighting it. Then I do it again. Then I let the images ask (or sometimes scream) to be let out. Then I keep working the image like an etching, only in reverse. I love the softness that I can achieve.

And I have to let go. There is little control in the process until the details are put in. This is very similar to TD in that you make the marks the universe guides you to and you dress up what y…

Burnings

This is a burning that I did. All of the tones are made with heat. It is 30"x22.5" on watercolor paper. I want to use natural combustible compounds so that I have less control over the process, so I am open to material suggestions. I don't want to pass on art with gasoline, etc., so I want good spirited compounds or materials.

Smiles to all.

it is alot bby I DO feel like it is bringing a sense of community to life for ME, too, which feels supportive. Now if several hundred join, it will move to another level. But so far, I am inviting very gradually and can handle it on a personal level. This is where group leaders will come in to keep it all personal when it gets bigger. Its GREAT to be in touch with you! thanks for your energy!

You saw right! I'm right across from Whidbey Island!!! I'm moving in about a two months, to a home within walking distance of the Mukilteo ferry......... and that is pure coincidence! Can you believe it!?
Anyway - I'll be sure to contact you when I'm in FL - it will be great to see you! :)

There is no doubt that TD has expanded my art world. It has also helped me with my meditation and spiritual practices, but that is much more difficult for me to show because words fail me most of the time. Thank you for looking at my art. Big smiles to you.

Mark, I just checked yout website. I love seeing your art - the touchdrawings, constructions, wood paintings, multiple-layer figure drawings. And I am so happy to read how TD has served your creative development.
