Still working with fire: gunpowder, torch, and wood burner. Maybe if I use all of the destructive materials in the world for art there will be none left for destruction. This is a detail of a lovely girl, Gianna. She is the second head of my version of Kali, the destroyer of evil and sin and ignorance.

The piece is really about me, the sins and evil I've committed and the ignorance that, well, I don't know about. Together the figures of two of the girls whom I love dearly make up Kali, who is normally depicted with two heads, four arms, a ceremonial sword, skulls, etc. I did the piece for a show that benefited education for women in prison. And I did the piece for me--always self serving.

I am still letting go of of holding on. Maybe soon I'll be free? I cannot wait until March so that I can explore and experience further TD wit Deborah in FL!

Yes, Mark - Your version of beating swords into plowshares. Powerful merging of imagery and medium! I am so glad you will be there in March!

Wow, Mark, these are amazing pieces! I don't really understand the art process you are using, but would love to.
What a statement: using all the destructive materials for art! Like...maybe we can take all that destructive energy and transform it, so there won't be anything left for destruction??

I have been exploring putting tissue touch drawings on fabric, where they become these sort of leather-like skins...then i am cutting those and layering with fabrics and quilting underneath. It is like the skins are being peeled back to reveal the stories underneath. I will post images soon.

I am so glad you will be coming to the March workshop!!
