Touch Drawing Community

So I advertise on Meetup.com that I've started this Touch Drawing thingy. I have members sign up and I schedule my first Meetup. I had 7 people sign up for membership and a few had said that they were coming to the first meeting. Well, ONE actually showed up. I was so excited for anyone to show up!
I had everything ready. I went and got some fresh boards cut that afternoon from Home Depot. The guy at Home Depot, his name was Chad, waved the cut fee for me! He asked what I was doing with the cut pieces and I told him it was for an art class. He smiled and said he wouldn't charge me the cut fee! Then I stopped to get a few more paint colors and I was set for the evening.

Raj came. He signed up for the meetup very last minute. Actually the night before. After the dogs got their smells of him and we introduced ourselves, we got started. I did a quick demo and talked about going into and connecting with our feelings. I mentioned this art is a process of working from the inside out. Showed the rolling technique and the common mistakes some make when first starting with TD.

Before I turned on the music to get started, I asked what he did for a living. He said he was a doctor. Holy crap! Here's little ol' me and him! Who the hell am I compared to him! A little panic started in for just a moment. Then I said, it's amazing the people that are drawn to this type of art. I told him what I did and we got started. I had the lights down and a couple of candles lit. The atmosphere was very calm.Even my dogs calmed down! LOL

I didn't have to do much facilitating with him. The process for him was very natural. Just once in a while reminders to feel, relax, maybe draw one picture with just the non dominant hand. To relax during the rolling part. (He seemed to want to rush through that to get to the next picture) "Think of the rolling part as like a meditation." And he naturally slowed down and started to enjoy the process.

That was pretty much it. So I was drawing too. He seemed a natural!

The CD I put on was one hour long. So when the CD ended we couldn't believe an hour had gone by!

We showed each other our pictures. He mentioned on a couple of his pictures what he was feeling when drawing them.
He asked if I could do this on a weekend so that when he gets his kids, he would like for them to experience the process. I was thrilled!

What a great experience, Denise! How awesome of you to share it in that way! I'm inspired! I'm on MeetUp, too, with a couple of groups - I think it would be great to make a Touch Drawing one! :) Bravo!

Hi Denise!
Big hugs from me to you. It is amazing to bring this sense of calm home. I'm alone for the week so, we'll see how things evolve. I wish I had my supplies together to do some drawing but I don't so I'll have to find some other way to stay with some peace.
Love you,
Moneca
