Touch Drawing Personal Use, Facilitating Touch Drawing
What brings you to an interest in Touch Drawing or SoulCards?
I have been doing Touch drawing for about 10 years, as a participant and a facilitator, in educational and therapeutic settings. i teach Touch Drawing as one of the core courses in the Art and Healing Certificate Program at Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, FL. My co-teacher, Victoria Domenichello-Anderson and myself believe that Touch Drawing is potentially such a powerful creative and personal experience that all the students in this Expressive Arts program can benefit greatly by taking the class. I have been teaching small weekly Touch Drawing workshops in my studio for about a year and a half as well. As a visual artist, I mount many of my Touch Drawings on canvas and further develop them, usually with acrylics.I have attended one TD gathering.
My experience applies to:
Therapy, Art, Creativity, Education, Aging, Health, Abuse, Grief, Parkinsons, Meditation, Expressive Arts
Other areas of interest & experience
I am a Registered Expressive Arts Consultant Educator and am devoted to bringing the power of the Expressive Arts (including Touch Drawing) to a wide variety of people in a a myriad of settings. I have a business, Expressive Arts Florida, with my wonderful colleagues: Victoria Domenichello-Anderson, Tamara Teeter Knapp and Elizabeth Bornstein. We are doing team building, expressive arts therapy, retreats, classes and workshops for adults and children.

At the Touch drawing gathering, I had a very powerful and unexpected experience with drawing my response to the death of my mother.
This was profoundly healing. Please see Nancy Watson's page, as she created a moving video of my drawings and writing. This video "Touch drawing: Journey Through Grief" is also available on the "videos" page.
Do you facilitate SoulCards with others?
Is there anything else you would like us to know about you?
i am on the Board of IEATA (International Expressive Arts Therapy Association) and I recommend this organization as professional support and community. The next conference is in Aug. 2009 in Boston.

We are currently hosting our first community Touch Drawing Exhibit at Expressive Arts Florida. It is amazing and powerful to stand in a room surrounded by the energy of the Touch Drawings of 20 people! The Artist's Reception was last Friday evening, and it generated a lot of curiosity, fascination, and interest in the touch drawing process.

I have posted some images here. We are blessed to have Deborah's beautiful "Seeds of Compassion" so gracefully and lovingly holding the space in our… Continue

Hi Kathleen, we have been enjoying your mom's place on Half Moon Bay! The weather has been lovely for most of this week. Today, our last day, is a rainy and windy one. A good day for catching up on correspondence. I have loved sitting down on the rocks and feeling the ocean breeze on my face. My family and I have also enjoyed adding contributions to the Flower of Life upstairs.... what a neat idea. I think I can find some way to use that collaborate method in our hospital.... I wish you all the best where ever you are. I enjoyed reading your reflections post gathering..... It does take time to process images I am learning. Take care, Deb

Dear Katheen,
Queen of the cone-heads, I couldn't have done it without you! It was wonderful to be in the small group with you and have time to process one/one as well. I look forward to future connecting...perhaps in Florida??? xoxolez

So proud to be a conehead. Thank you for your expert facilitation. You have left warm hands all over my heart. From the Gathering, I feel resuscitated, uplifted and grateful. I'm so pleased our paths crossed in a meaningful way. We'll be connected.

Hi Kathleen, I am glad that you are going to be at the Gathering. I am so looking forward to the experience. I feel a little bit like I am jumping into the deep end! But I also know that there will be support and teaching about how to breathe down there.
May you be having a good time with family right now. Deborah

Hi Kathleen, Hope you are well! Trying to sort through my questions about expr.arts therapy is taking longer than I thought. I'll start with the obvious - I have no psychology or therapy training. (I have a B.A. in Art.) Could I even get into a masters progr. for expr. arts therapy without previous experience in psych or therapy? If you are licensed in one state, can you work in other states too? Do you know any online or low residency progr.? Thanks for your help!! Jackie

Hi Kathleen, Thank you very much for your offer to answer my questions. I will take you up on that offer. :-) I'll think about it on the weekend and get back to you.
Have a good weekend. Spring is here in Hamburg - hallelujah!! Hope the weather in FL is good too. :-) Warmly, Jacquelyn

Hi Kathleen! A small world, indeed! It's so nice Deborah mentioned me and you remember me - and my email jam-packed with questions ;-) I heard you had a big turnout for TD. Exciting! Have you done any more waiting rooms like the one at the NICU? As someone with an interest in room design and a deep passion for spirtual healing and well-being, that project struck both cords! How to combine both?! Must study IEATA education page (again!) Hi to all at EAF! Warmly, Jacquelyn

Dear Kathleen, Thank you and the Expressive Arts group for putting together last Sunday's touch drawing event with Deborah. It was an experience I will always treasure, as will the very first time I put my hands on paper with your guidance. Namaste, Laurel
