Kuumba:

Hi, my name is Jill (Lopes). I live in Stonington, ME. I am trained as an art teacher but have not had much success upon moving home finding a position. I currently work as an Ed Tech III in a private school for emotional/behavioral and austitic children.

I first became acquainted with Soul Cards while in grad school around 1998. I have not used them since. I want to get back into working with them. I have a lot of things I am trying to process right now. I love this idea of making new friends and sharing TD Experiences.

Your son's story gave me goosebumps. I believe in past life experiences. I know I have a great fear of drowning. I hate water over my face. I feel something significant happened around this in a past life.

I hope to hear from you soon. Jill

Dearest Kuumba! It's so great to hear from you. You have passed through my awareness many times since we met I was thinking of you last week. So awesome to see your beautiful self here and to know you are letting td be a part of your regular routine now as well as sharing with your boys! I am moved by your experience with Td and the slave ships and the boys experience. Powerful. Powerful.

So much love, Jewell

What brings you to an interest in Touch Drawing or SoulCards?
I had the fortune of attending The Gathering in 2001! Talk about a soul-uplifting/shifting experience!!

Since this time, I find that I have 'cycles' with my Touch Drawing! I'd gone through a pretty 'long' period of not dong TD at all, but I eventually 'come back home' to TD! I now have a stand set up where I can do my drawings...and this makes it easier and more accessible!

Also, I've experimented with using T.D. in my Freshman Composition classes when I taught writing. And...I've had great success with having my twin sons begin T.D. when they were young; I know that this experience has had a profound impact on their standardized test scores!
My experience applies to:
Art, Creativity, Education, Spiritual, Intuitive, Children, Expressive Arts, Other
Other areas of interest & experience
Reiki, mask making, dance, Expressive Arts, Creative Career Consulting
Have you done Touch Drawing?
Yes
Have you facilitated Touch Drawing?
Yes
In what setting have you facilitated?
While I have not yet set up 'formal' T.D. facilitation sessions, I have introduced T.D. to college writing students, children and adults!! (at social events!)
I attended the Annual Touch Drawing Gathering on Whidbey Island, Washington

Share a special experience with Touch Drawing or SoulCards.
One weekend when my boys where visiting with their dad, I'd decided to enjoy some 'me' time and have fun with Touch Drawing! So, I 'played' a bit, and as I continued, I found that the images got somewhat 'intense.' After my session, I reviewed some of the images, and I'd realized that I'd created a few images of slave ships, with myself and others on the ships...the ships were being tossed about and being destroyed due to inclement weather. I processed this experience and then put up my T.D. supplies.

A few days later when my boys came back home, they both immediately wanted to do Touch Drawing! I got out the materials, but I did not take out the aforementioned Touch Drawings that I'd created, for I didn't want to 'color' their experiences. At the time I had one board, so the boys would each take turns doing an image one at a time...The whole while they created, the boys 'chatted away' about many subjects. (This is a great way for parents to be a 'casual' listener...it's not obtrusive!)

After their session, I asked them if they wanted to talk about any of the images. One son piped up about one of his Touch Drawings with, "Mom, this is a ship...and I'm on the ship...and you're on it to...and there was a hurricane...a storm...and we died...we drowned!" As I'd recalled 'my personal' session a few days ago, my mouth sort of dropped open! I'd more fully realized the 'power/importance' of Touch Drawing!

Maybe three months or so from this time, I was driving near the Jersey shore. My boys didn't swim at the time, so I'd thought it would be great to let them experience the vastness of the ocean and a quick walk. I had a friend with me at the time, and we each picked up a child and we only went a few feet out into the water. To my amazement, my one son who did the 'ship drawings' started screaming and crying...he almost jumped out of my arms as he wildly pointed off in the distance of the ocean, "The ships! Momma...the ships...we have to go!" I was so startled that I nervously laughed as I took him back to the 'safety' of the sand.

After this episode, nothing was ever mentioned about it again. Both boys, while not 'proficient' swimmers yet, go in the ocean and into swimming pools...Thanks, Touch Drawing!!
Do you facilitate SoulCards with others?
Yes
If so, with whom and how?
I've had college writing students 'look' and experience the cards...they'd then transfer their feelings/emotions into their writing. We'd begin with journal/freewriting, and then, if students wanted to, they then created more 'formal' essays.

I've also introduced my twins to the SoulCards. They'd 'simply' look at them and share what they 'saw/felt.' (This is another great way to create a space for children/others to 'open up'...esp. great for quiet/shy folks...or when there might be a communication block!)
