February 14 – March 14, 2009 at the Gallery Expressive Arts Florida, with the help of Susan Jackewicz, Victoria Anderson, Elisabeth Bornstein, Tamera Knapp, Kathleen Horne, my Wife Shirley and I put on an art show titled an Art Continuum. Documenting the art that I have been able to do since being diagnosed with Parkinson's 7 years ago. The "continuum" culminates with a series of 9 Touch Drawings and a statement I made about what I experienced in the making of them. The Show was sponsored by HealthSouth Sarasota and The Hermine Bachrach Fund. The opening February 20th was a huge success with many attending. I've posted photos of the event on the Touch Drawing site.

Coments on An Art Continuum show

A lot of the art I make has layers of meaning or experiences that involve the conscious and subconscious. That includes my photography as well as my pottery. I've admired so called "primitive" art and symbols and have created some of my own, filling sketch books with them. I have included some of them in my ceramics, prints, paintings and have computerized some. These influences continue to appear in my Touch Drawings. I also like to find "abstract" images in nature with my camera and have creat… Continue

Irvin, Sorry... I've never been to Minnesota... The north woods area looks amazing! I just Googled it. Western Minnesota... prairies... North woods... woods. During the summertime, I'd imagine the woods to be cooler and more beautiful

Hi Irvin! Summer is rolling along... I've been working on an online class management system (Moodle) for my art classes at school. I've also been active at Art Education 2.0... an online network for art educators. We're in the process of having a new bath installed in our house which was built in 1903. Did I tell you I'm a registered art therapist and used to work at http://www.bancroftneurohealth.org/ and http://www.cchsc.com/...?
Five years ago, I was diagnosed with MS http://www.nationalmssociety.org/about-multiple-sclerosis/index.aspx
Life is interesting that way. I have been fortunate in that I have a career I enjoy ... and a medication that seems to be keeping my disease at bay for the most part.
This time last summer, my husband and I were touring around Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, and Arizona. This summer, we're listening to hammers and saws. Western Minnesota sounds lovely! I hope you are having a wonderful time.

Irvin,

Your art on so many levels inspires me and I just love it that your Art Continuum Show was such a success. As an artist myself and Touch Drawing facilitator for many years in Ohio, I can only imagine how much this process can help you to deal with the Parkinson's. My son has Tourettes Syndrome (another neurological 'challenge!) and he has created many Touch Drawings over the years in my 7 Arts Studio, many of which he has enhanced into paintings.

I wish you the very best in your life's journey and commend you for your courage and the use of your beautiful talents.

Your painting of "Keep Smiling" now sits on my Meditation Altar. I hope you don't mind -- you simply inspire me so!

Blessing,
Noreen
