My interest is in
Touch Drawing Personal Use, SoulCards Personal Use, Facilitating Touch Drawing, Facilitating SoulCards
What brings you to an interest in Touch Drawing or SoulCards?
To bring touch drawing to people and their families who are in Hospice. To use their drawings as an opportunity to educate the public about the positive aspects of death and dying
My experience applies to:
Therapy, Art, Social Work, Spiritual, Intuitive, Children, Aging, Health, Hospice, Grief, Family, Cancer, Expressive Arts
Have you done Touch Drawing?
Have you facilitated Touch Drawing?
In what setting have you facilitated?
I have facilitated groups of adults at my previous art gallery, to women and children in a domestic violence shelter, for a family of someone who was dying, one-on-one while doing inner portraits, and was an assistant for Deborah when she did a workshop for 80 hospice volunteers
I attended the Annual Touch Drawing Gathering on Whidbey Island, Washington
2006, 2004, 2003, 2001, 2000, 1998, 1997
Share a special experience with Touch Drawing or SoulCards.
I think I really got the inner portrait experience last gathering. I was paired Amanda, which was the first time we had met. I had never drawn anything like the drawings that I did, and Amanda continued to immediately recognize them as part of her life. My biggest surprise was the wedding picture Amanda drew. The woman was alone and stood before a place of worship. The week before I was on retreat and had a most powerful experience of being married to myself!
Do you facilitate SoulCards with others?
If so, with whom and how?
I have been more spontaneous with this as something that may be a gift to the group. I have done this at lunch with strangers whom I met at a workshop, at a small gathering honoring the life and death of a friend, etc

Creating Cards from your Touch Drawings

Creating Cards of your Images

This process is relatively inexpensive and allows you to experience putting your touch drawings out into the world. I highly recommend this for everyone! They can be matted and framed as well as enjoyed as cards.

Get some good quality photographs. Have several copies made in your preferred size. Write up a biography of yourself, titles of your work, and maybe a description of touch drawing for the back of the card. Put this on your portable… Continue

Dear Shemaya,

Lovely to hear from you again! Yes, we have had another wonderful gathering this year with a lovely group of women, we were all touched and blessed deeply by each other. I have started teaching touch drawing in New Zealand with some small groups, gaining confidence with my own style of teaching and finding ways of creating openness in people with the process. There has been a lot of change in my life in many ways. Change of home, need for renovations and change in my personal life with having Marco, an American man I met last year on Whitbey Island after the gathering, enter my life in New Zealand. A lot to digest and integrate all at once, really! Marco is a muscian of devotional music and we get on really well. It is so good for me to be with another "artist" of sort, it helps draw me out and empower my world and perception... No longer just the "weird one", great to have company in my weirdness, so to speak!...

At the moment, I am allowing myself to go deeper into myself and receive messages from my own soul about how I can bring more of myself into my work and the teaching of TD, and let myself feel how important this is for people at this time of great change. I am staying with Denise in Seattle until 5th August and we are running a TD workshop together over next weekend. I will be attending the IEATA conference in Peru this year for the first time, out of a real desire to connect with

souls who do this sort of work, to feel more accompanied in my process. Then I will spend two weeks in Peru after the conference, open to work in expressive arts with the people of Peru as well as visiting a little.

I will share my discoveries with you on my return...

Hi Shemaya,

It is Valerie from New Zealand here! So nice to see your face and read about your experiences. I have started to teach touch drawing and I am really enjoying it. Because self-acceptance has been a very important journey for me, I am thinking of offering support for people using TD drawing and supporting self-acceptance issues, such as freezing and not being able to express, or being highly critical of your work and shutting down. I also would like to share some of my images with you, if you would like. It can feel a little lonely here in New Zealand and It need to let myself reach out to you guys and connect more... It is always a little difficult for me to do, I tend to isolate myself a bit too much. Healing self-esteem, building self-esteem is something I want to help people with. I so know what it is like not to have it and what it takes to reclaim it. Would you be open to me sharing the process with you a little? I love your great sense of respect for others and your depth of experience and presence... I am thinking of coming back next year to be with you all again, I miss the contact of like-minded souls...

I will scan my images, and send them to you when they are all on a file. It is so nice to share. I love your latest images and the way you are turning your work into cards. Would you come back next year for the gathering Shemaya?

Did you hear that we got shaken up a little? Earthquake in Christchruch, right were I live. It was very unsettling for everyone and it is not over... More will come at the end of Feb and into March... It was a strong time of people drawing together to support each other and get closer. It has been quite a year!...

I would love to hear from you Shemaya!

Dear Shemaya,
How exciting for you to "be seen" in a show -- 'soul peeks'. I backed my TDings drawn on tissue with a more substantial white paper then found handmade paper at the local art store whose colors or patterns brought out the colors of the paints I used in the drawings. I then rolled the top of the handmade paper over to make a pocket to slide a stick of bamboo into-- tied black ribbon onto bamboo and created a hanging. This really tied the the small showing I had together with color and movement. I can't wait to see your pieces on display. Much love to you, Pat

Hi Shemaya, SO GOOD TO HEAR FROM YOU.....i wish so much that i would be at the gathering but not this year. I am working hard at my new job..just spent two weeks with family..a needed visit.....but that sort of used up my extended time right now this summer....i would LOVE to see Deborah come to the Mandala Center to teach an intensive..i think it is the perfect setting for her...i have mentioned it but that has not taken shape - yet - smile.... I think she could do well here.....
and we do have an "artist nook cabin" here on the grounds..we have a writer who may be staying for a few months to write here. though we do charge for the space.....but we maybe could consider doing some partial work exchange with you if that is what you are looking for.....but not sure the high desert is a place of inspiration for you...but it is always here to can see our new website at if you have not seen it. Gotta run, but so good to hear from can also write to me at my personal email at as I check that far more creativity has been devoured by this job lately..but after a trip to the ER for heart doctor has told me I need to take some time for me..and i know the sculpting and writing is calling me.....somehow need to find that place of compassion and permission again for myself.......take care Lori

Dear Shemmaya -- North Carolina has just been covered in a beautiful blanket of snow and I have no clients today. Time to reflect. . . and rest. Last night the energy from the full moon was still with me and I pulled out TDs from the past 2 years and began playing with them as though I was creating a big collage. I started matching themes and then colors of the paints. Wildly stimulating! Today I want to add some tissue and pastels to see if I can tie them together more as a story board. I have a huge box filled with drawings and it may be a way for me to play with my images-- see what they speak of to my soul. The images are like whispers and I want to listen more intently. If anything is completed I'll put some on my "page" to share with you. I have also just been asked to demonstrate this TD process with a small program within UNC Integrative Health Care . The new director wants to begin developing a "new language" for people who are living with Cancer. I have shared my passion for working with my feelings through TD and she is interested. Yeah!!! Anything you could share with me or your experience working with people who are seeking messages from within themselves would be so appreciated. I wish you lived next door. I miss your energy. Hugs for now, Pat
